MOISTURE MOLDS AND MILDEW

Mold and mildew can trigger respiratory problems. Relative humidity should be controlled between 35% and 50% for a healthy environment. Very humid conditions, (higher than 70% relative humidity) encourage the growth of mildew. Very dry conditions are favorable to viruses.

Fungi (mold and mildew) are living microorganisms. They digest organic material such as the cellulose in paper and give off aldehyde, ketone and alcohol gases in the process. These allergens and spores develop from warm, moist conditions which usually occur as a result of high relative humidity inside the home and inside wall cavities. With conventional homes mold inside wall cavities can accumulate with time and get worse and worse, year after year.
